The word Kluang hails from the word ‘keluang’. ‘Keluang’ is a large bat that devours on durian flowers and fruits such as rambutan, “rambai” (Baccaurea motleyana)  , and others. When nightfall, a herd of bat flocking out from their nest  looking for its staple diet. Those countless bats believed to inhibit in a hill called Gunung Lambak.  Farmers perplexing on how to get rid of this pest. Ultimately, they consulting a witch  to perform a ritual at the foothill  to chase away the bats from coming back to their orchards.

Why Kluang is famous for coffee addict drinker  

Kluang town lies in the heart of Johor state. There is a railway station that built by the British in the 1900 era to transport the agriculture produce like, coffee bean, rubber , timber and daily consumer goods between the Malaya settlement.

When the British came here to clear the jungle for rubber plantation. Their habits of High tea drinking  with a cup of cuppa or tea during the morning and afternoon break. They accompanied with their office staff and family member during the recess time.

Since there is a huge demand for coffee’s  cafe. The cafes mushroomed like the flower blooming after the rain.   Today, there is more than 400+ coffee shops in a town with a population slightly over 300,000. Every row of shop lot, you are bound to find a coffee kiosk.

The shop is full house anytime especially during the breakfast during the weekend.  You can hardly find a seat vacant. The drinkers  don’t mind to wait for half an hour just for the sake of a cup of  the cuppa. There are patrons drinking 3 cups in the morning at one go along the Malaysian famed” Nasi Lemak” wrapped in a banana leaf.

” Boss , give me  a cup of “Kopi cham” with a slice of “roti Kahwin toast”  more “Kaya” please.” A lad gives an order. A high tea will not complete without a cup of hot brew coffee.
